Meet Ntsiki Biyela, South Africa’s first black female winemaker

Ntsiki Biyela is the first black female winemaker in South Africa. Not only has she successfully started her own impressive & world-renowned brand, Aslina Wines. Ntsiki has also gone on to consult in France, making wine under the Winemakers’ Collection in Bordeaux, a project that creates opportunities for cultural exchange.

From a village in KZN, to Château d’Arsac, Biyela came from humble beginnings to world-class winemaking! A true inspiration to us all and a force to be reckoned with. She is behind the Bordeaux-style blend called Orion at Stellekaya where she was a winemaker before establishing Aslina Wines in 2016.

In 2016, she established Aslina Wines, inspired by the strength and determination of the biggest influence in her life, her grandmother.

Apart from her footprint in Bordeaux, Another significant partnership featuring Bordeaux-style blends was forged with Napa Valley winemaker, Helen Keplinger under the Suo Collaboration Series for Wine for the World, a US import
